Re-released ten years ago for our 70th
anniversary, the G12H evokes the sounds of the classic 1960s and
70s rock bands.
Loud and proud thanks to its heavy magnet structure, the G12H
provides a fusion of the Vintage 30 and the Greenback
characteristics, producing a thick, warm and syrupy sound while
still retaining a tight and focused bottom end.
When played clean, the speaker remains clear and musical without
ever sounding harsh. In overdrive, pick attack is vividly
articulated with sustained notes trailing off into warm harmonic
tones. |

Celestions first guitar loudspeaker
featuring a ceramic magnet structure, the G12M Greenback presented
almost as much magnetic flux to the voice coil as an Alnico
formulation, but in a much more compact space. As a result the
Greenback became the guitar loudspeaker that paved the way for use
with higher power amplifiers. And, of course, the ceramic magnet
presented its own unique tonal characteristics.
The Greenback has a loud and assertive character that sounds great
through a valve amp pushed into overdrive. The speaker has evolved
over the decades and still presents that instantly familiar woody
tone, delivered with a knockout punch. |

The Vintage 30 resulted from
Celestions early steps to preserve the tonal characteristics of
vintage speakers while using contemporary materials and construction
techniques.
As the 1970s progressed and guitar amplifiers became more powerful,
guitarists began to demand the tone of the Celestion Blue in a
speaker that could handle more power. So in the early 80s,
Celestion made pioneering use of Laser Doppler Interferometry to
analyse the cone behaviour of an original Celestion Blue. We could
then form a precise model of our vintage speaker characteristics and
apply it to a speaker design using new materials for greater power
handling.
The result was an instant classic. Seemingly twice as loud as
anything else at the same power level, the Vintage 30 handles
massive overdrive sounds with ease. Tight bass, fat mids and a
smooth, harmonically rich top end have made the Vintage 30 an
excellent 4 x 12" loudspeaker. Of course, its also suitable for any
other cab! |

The worlds first
dedicated guitar loudspeaker and a part of musical history. Back in
the 1950s, Celestion witnessed the emergence of a new breed of
musician the electric guitarist and responded to their needs for
a rugged, reliable loudspeaker by modifying the G12 radio speaker.
The unique tonal character of the Celestion Blue, combined with the
valve amps of the time, helped to define the electric guitar as we
know it today.
Variations of the Blue were actually released in several different
liveries, including chrome, red and silver. Used by many classic
amplifier manufacturers of the time, it was the speakers adoption
by Vox for their AC30 that ensured the Blues place in history.
The Blue has a bright, lively character with a carefully controlled
bottom end and shimmering highs which remains popular and
distinctive to this day. Loaded into a single 12" or 2 x 12"
cabinet, this legendary loudspeaker suits a wide range of playing
styles. |

Way back in the 1960s,
Celestion released a version of the popular G12 guitar loudspeaker
called the G12M. These days nicknamed the Greenback, with its medium
weight magnet this speaker had a tone that was silky smooth and
warm, while still retaining the brightness and punch necessary to
cut through the rest of the band. The Greenback was also a highly
articulate speaker, perfect for the pioneering lead guitarists of
the time. A classic had been born.
Over subsequent years, the Greenback has evolved and remains popular
with guitarists and amp manufacturers to this day. As the speaker
developed, though, its tonal characteristics moved away from those
of the original 60s model.
Adhering precisely to the design notes and specifications for the
original speaker, re-discovered during our recent factory move, and
using exactly the same materials and construction techniques,
Celestion has recreated the classic 1960s G12M for a new generation
of rock and blues guitarists. |

If the G12M was to
become a classic, it was the G12H with its heavier magnet that
really characterised the sound of rock guitar for the new breed of
player that emerged in the 1960s. Listen to any Hendrix recording
and the chances are youre hearing the unmistakably creamy tones of
the G12H. Originally available in two versions low resonance for
bassists and high resonance for guitarists both were in fact
embraced by guitar players for their unique tonal characteristics.
The new Celestion G12H is a perfect recreation of the low resonance
model, right down to the voice coil former material, glue
formulations and vintage, solder-only tag panel. Suitable for use in
all cabs, it exudes thick, syrupy tones with a deep, growling bottom
end. |
